How to Install Maya 8.5 Bonus Tools

ScreenShot

I succeeded in installing bonus tools. I have had a copy of Maya Bonus tools 2008 on my computer for about 5 months but just recently tried to install but with out any success for the last 5 hours. Countless trial and errors and scouring the web to see if anyone else was haveing the same problems. A lot of people did. Some said after failing a few time they got the bounus tools to install and show up on the menu bar, but failed to give a real account of how they did it, and if they did it was vary vague. I tried them all and they didn't work.

So, this is how I did it...

1)Run the Bonus Tools exe- it gets placed in to C: \ programfiles \ autodesk \

2)Copy the bonus tools folder into

C: \ Documents and Settings \ *Your User Name* \ My Documents \ maya \ 8.5

3)Open Maya then in the script editor load the "bonusToolsMenu.mel"

hit ctrl + Enter twice. Then type bonusToolsMenu; (include the semi-colon) into the script
editor, hit ctrl+enter again. You'll see the bonus menu appear.

4)Close Maya down, then got to

C: \ Documents and Settings \ *Ur Name* \ My Documents \ maya \ 8.5 \ scripts

Find the userSetup file, open in a text editor skip a few lines down and type in

bonusToolsMenu; (include the semi-colon) and save the file.

The bonus tools can probably be added with out step three, but, that is how I did it.

  1. For maya 2009 where would you find the userset up file ? I can not find it within the scrips ? ?

  2. Just make one by copying a MEL script and changing its name to usersetup.mel. I've been playing with editing the MAYA ENV.file to do what the usersetup.mel does.
